Cassiterite with a red-cinnamon colour and a very high lustre due to the high refractive index of light. Cassiterite is a mineral that is not commonly worked into jewellery stones, but is widely used as a high quality tin ore. This stone comes from the northern state of Minas Gerais, Brazil; it is cut into a modified oval measuring 7.47 x 5.64 mm. Although cassiterite has a hardness of 7 (like quartz) and is therefore suitable for jewelry, it is usually limited to collections for the truly discerning collector.
